About the event
Shalom for All Creation
The concept of 'shalom' is deeply spiritual. It has its roots in the Hebrew word 'shalam', meaning to restore, or make whole, and it points to God's original and ongoing vision for all of Creation. Shalom, or Peace, as it is often translated, is more than the absence of conflict. It embodies the notions of well-being, wholeness, justice, harmony, welfare, and the healing of broken relationships – between and among people, and between and among people and the whole created order.
What does it mean, what will it take, and how can we contribute to the reality of all of Creation experiencing God's vision of Shalom?
Drawing on the work and wisdom of biblical scholar Dr. Walter Bruegemman, Indigenous leader, professor, and co-founder of Eagle's Wings Ministry Randy Woodley, the inherent wisdom of flora and fauna, as well as the wisdom of celestial and earthly beings of Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Brother Wind, Sister Water, Brother Fire, (as named by St. Francis of Assisi), we will explore, imagine, wonder, and perhaps even discover a way to walk in the world in such a way that the reality of Shalom in increased in our own hearts, and thereby flowing out into the world, inspiring and encouraging the way of Shalom for all Creation.
I hope you will join me at Camp Kintail, on the beautiful shores of Lake Huron, on Wednesday, April 22 – Thursday, April 23.
About Kathy
Kathy is a life-long Presbyterian, thankful for the ways in which her faith has been shaped and continues to be re-shaped within the community of those who seek and celebrate the presence of the Divine in all of life.
Her career in the church spans more than forty five years, during which she served as Diaconal Minister, curriculum writer, retreat leader, Minister of Word and Sacraments, Moderator of Presbytery, convenor of committees at congregational, Presbytery, Synod and General Assembly levels. Since retiring in 2020, she became a Spiritual Director through the Jubilee Ontario programme.
Kathy finds great delight in time spent at the cottage on McCarrel’s Lake near Sault Ste. Marie, walking the labyrinth in Kincardine, playing bridge, and every minute she spends with her grandchildren,
Kathy welcomes every opportunity to share her wisdom, insights and ongoing questions and wonderings as she engages with sacred texts, personal experience, periods of contemplative silence, and deep conversations with those who desire to deepen their awareness of both the abiding presence and the deep mystery of God.
