POLICIES & PRACTICES
As a fully accredited member of the Ontario Camps Association, Camp Kintail maintains the highest standards of safety, leadership, food, water, and sanitation:
Campers’ health, safety, and comfort are essential for a memorable camp experience. All staff members have training in first aid and hold Standard First Aid Certificates and CPR “C”. First Aid Kits are found throughout the site and an AED is located in MacDonald Lodge. During our summer camp sessions, a registered nurse or licensed paramedic is always on site and they work closely with staff to ensure camper care, safety and health. Feather’s, our summer infirmary, is well equipped to provide quality care, with the additional support of local hospitals nearby.
Waterfront staff all hold National Lifeguarding Service certification, as well there are several staff members who hold Bronze Cross certification. At the High Challenge Course climbers climb at a 1 Kintail staff to 1 climber ratio. The Kintail staff to camper ratio at all other sessions are 1:3 or 1:4. The ratio at the beach is 1:5 or 1:6, depending on the activity. Overnight in cabins the ratio is 1:4 or 1:5, depending on numbers.
Regular visits and approval by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Huron County Health Unit confirm that our kitchen, washrooms, sleeping areas, and site meet with Provincial regulations. We have a state of the art water treatment system that includes chlorination. Our water is tested daily and we have several “Small Drinking Water Systems Operators” on staff to meet with all Ontario water legislation. Our water testing is monitored by an outside company.
Camp Kintail follows the Leading with Care Policy of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. All staff and volunteers undergo criminal background checks.
Meals are generous, well planned and nutritious. Served in a ‘family style’ setting, three balanced meals and a bedtime snack are served daily. Meal plans follow Canada’s Food Guide. We work hard at being a “Nut-Aware” Facility. While we do not serve any food prepared with nut products and ask all our guests to comply by the same policy, we can not guarantee a “nut-free” environment. We take food and other allergies very seriously.
ACCESSIBILITY
Camp Kintail strives at all times to provide its programs, goods and services in a way that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities. We are also committed to giving people with disabilities the same opportunity to access our programs, goods and services and allowing them to benefit from the same services, in the same place, and in a similar way as other participants.
We strive to make all of our buildings and activities accessible. Buildings and activities are accessible via ramp, automatic doors can be found throughout the site. The Lodge has an accessible washroom and Feathers and the Nest both have accessible washrooms with roll-in showers. Camp Kintail is a 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming camp that strives to be a safe place for all guests to enjoy all the activities a summer camp has to offer while being their authentic selves. We became Rainbow Registered in 2023. Part of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, Kintail aims to ensure everyone has an opportunity to experience Christian camping with an emphasis on love and kindness for all.
