This is my fifteenth summer being at Camp Kintail. From day camp to express camp, to all -girls outdoor adventure, woodlands, sr. Co-ed, LIT, and after 3 years on staff I have learned and grown so much with the help of so many amazing people around me. I have compiled a list of some of the great things I learned in my years here. Things that will stay with me forever.
So, here are some of the things you might expect your child to learn after they have spent time at camp:
Comfortable clothing is always fashionable.
Good shoes are a must.
Spiders and worms are not gross.
Music is a beautiful thing.
Scratches and bruises are the maps of an adventure on your skin.
It’s okay not to brush your hair, and not to look in the mirror.
It’s okay to eat a lot if you’re hungry.
The most effective way to finish a task is usually to do it in a group.
You don’t have to be good at everything; but trying is always the best option.
Being dirty means that you have had an adventure.
Opinions and views are welcome- whether they be the ones you were raised with, or the ones you have chosen yourself. Be proud of what you believe, but be open to learning and listening.
Play and laughter are key. It’s okay to be silly and goof off.
At camp, with no media to tell you how to dress, or technology to take you away from the outdoors, you can discover the things in life that you truly love.
Simplicity works.
It’s always good to plan ahead, and to have a rain plan.
Sleep is the fuel for all things fun.
There is no such thing as bad weather- dress appropriately.
At camp, girls can fix cabins and carry boats.
At camp, boys can make bracelets and feed bunnies.
Your cabin is your family. You learn to love and respect them.
You accept and embrace everyone, no matter what.
Wilderness knowledge is always good knowledge.
Patience is golden.
Asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
Christian communities are out there, you just need to look.
Trusting people is very rewarding.
Friendships make life great.
Respect everyone.
Love yourself.
Live without judgement and jealousy.
And always bring extra socks.
With love,
Armadillo
