Maybe it is because of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games or maybe it is because of Hawkeye in The Avengers, but archery has become an extremely popular activity with campers and school groups. Students are more excited than ever about going to archery sessions. They arrive talking about it and leave talking about it.
The beauty of archery at camp is how quickly a camper or student can go from never having fired an arrow to being able to consistently hit the middle of the target. Campers really like the immediate feedback and rapid improvement in skills that archery provides. And it sounds really cool when the arrow hits the target!
Narwhal and I went to archery training today. Archery training is an annual training event for a few Camp Kintail staff each year. We learned some more about running archery program sessions, new ways to make archery even more engaging and some less exciting, but equally important, skills around repair and maintenance of the archery equipment.
We are both looking forward to helping campers and students gain confidence and learn skills over the next few months of archery sessions. Now if I could just hit the bulls eye one time this summer…
