The Camp Kintail Board is proud to present the 2016 recipients of the ‘Reach Higher’ staff scholarship… drumroll please!!!
Maddie “Chickadee” Krusto
Chickadee has made individual campers feel valued and included by freely sharing kindness and friendship. In her role this past summer facilitating the low-ropes program, she challenged both campers and herself to grow in confidence and take initiative. Chickadee looks forward to opportunities to take on increasing responsibility in her church’s youth programs.
Darryl “Stork” Sherk
Stork used his talents to share his Kintail experience and connect with the wider community through his work as Social Media Director and Videographer. In the spring, he took it one step further, carrying his recording equipment on the million-step North-to-South hike of the Bruce Trail – raising money to provide financial assistance for children to attend camp through our Campership program.
Lauren “Pika” Holden
Pika initiated and has led an early morning devotional group for staff and L.I.T.s for two consecutive summers, sharing her own faith and helping to nurture it in others. She is a volunteer youth leader at her home church, and was part of the North-to-South hike for Campership team.
Congratulations Chickadee, Stork and Pika!
The ‘Reach Higher’ scholarship is a chance for the Board and the wider church to recognize and celebrate the hard work and enthusiasm of the young leaders that serve as summer staff at Camp Kintail. The scholarship fund is generously supported by congregations and individual donors throughout the Synod.
Staff who have served three or more summers as a Kintail staff member, and will be attending a post-secondary institution, are eligible for this scholarship. Watch for applications for next year’s award during the summer of 2017!
