Christmas Ornament Crafting Guide

We were thrilled to offer families craft supplies and a few Christmas ornament ideas during our Weekend Away retreats and Craft Retreats! Find out how to make your own beautiful decorations and get creative so you can do these designs with items you have at home!

Stone Christmas Tree Ornament

Supples Needed

  • Stones
  • A backing for your ornament (wood disc, sanded)
  • Paint
  • Hot Glue
  • Small wooden stars (or paint your own)
  • Ribbon or string

Directions

  1. Find 3 small stones and paint them green
  2. Glue the stones to the background of your ornament
  3. Glue or paint on a star
  4. Add a ribbon to tie to your tree

Tips and Tricks

  • You can also add dots of coloured paint to your stones so your tree looks even more colourful and decorated
  • Be careful to choose small stones with a flat surface to make sure they stick well with the hot glue
  • Try painting the background so your tree really pops

Stone or Glass Nativity Scene Ornament

Supples Needed

  • Stones or glass (bodies and manger)
  • A backing for your ornament (wood disc, sanded)
  • Paint
  • Hot Glue
  • Small wooden stars (or paint your own)
  • Ribbon or string

Directions

  1. Find stones or glass and lay out the shapes of Mary, Jospeh, and a manger with baby Jesus
  2. Polish your stones with clear nail polish so they appear wet and shiny
  3. Glue your characters onto an ornament backing (wood disk)
  4. Add a star to the top of your scene
  5. Thread your ribbon so you can hang up your ornament!

*You can paint your background to have a night sky or leave it empty!
