Camp Programs

Camp Kintail is committed to providing diverse programming to staff and campers on and off the Camp Kintail site. A variety of programme experiences are planned each year to enhance physical, spiritual and emotional growth. Facing new challenges while living in community builds new friendships, confidence and skills.
Chapel, Devotions & FLASH (Faith Learning And SHaring)
Being a part of the Presbyterian Church in Canada gives children and adults a unique camping experience – A Christian camping experience! At Kintail, campers start and end the day with God… starting with a campwide chapel service and ending with a devotion to God with their cabin groups. As well, once a day, campers celebrate their faith during FLASH (Faith, Learning and Sharing), which is a kid-orientated bible study full of fun, games, singing and learning! At Kintail we take joy in celebrating our faith together, in a fun and accepting outdoor setting!
Rock Wall
Camp Kintail began offering climbing on our outdoor three sided rock climbing tower in the summer of 2010. Our trained and experienced staff guide campers through the safety procedures and teach proper climbing technique. After double checking all ropes and equipment, campers are encouraged to climb. Sucess on the rock wall is not determined by how high a camper climbs, but the accomplishment of reaching their individual goals. There are six climbing routes on our tower, with increased challenges for returning campers. For younger campers, the bottom of the wall is often used as a bouldering wall and they get to participate in the excitement of climbing (just close to the ground!). In 2010, the combined climbs of our campers and staff was over the height of Mount Everest!

Watercraft
What would camp be without boating on Lake Huron? Camp Kintail watercraft sessions provide campers with the opportunity to practice both their canoeing and kayaking skills with a certified canoeing instructor and qualified lifeguard. Throughout the week campers will become acquainted with the basic ins and outs of canoeing. They will not only learn about the different parts of a canoe and its accompanying paddle, but they will also learn about strokes and sterning a canoe. In addition they will also have the opportunity to try out our sit-on-top kayaks and have a go with a two headed paddle. On days where it’s too wavy for the boats to make it out, campers can try their best to ride out the waves and body surf.

Ever wondered how to tie a perfect knot? Or how to make a cake in an orange rind? Camp crafts at Camp Kintail can provide the answers to these life-long questions. During Camp Crafts, campers will gain a variety of outdoor living skills that are useful whether you’re camping in your backyard, or heading out on a trip in Algonquin Park (which Camp Kintail also runs!).

Waterfront
Situated on the shores of Lake Huron, Camp Kintail is fortunate to have a beautiful stretch of beachfront property, which the camp makes daily use of. Every afternoon campers get changed, grab their towels and head to the beach. Once the buoy lines are in place and four qualified lifeguards are set up, campers are given the go-ahead to run in, and run in they do. For campers who would like to do something else, Camp Kintail also provides a variety of sand toys for castle building, as well as beach volleyball facilities.
Adventure
Adventure sessions at Camp Kintail are a great opportunity to bond with your fellow campers. By participating in a variety of games and activities, campers work on improving their teamwork and communication skills. Whether it’s working together to keep the parachute open, achieve a better group time in the hula-hoop race or doing your best to defeat the time machine, adventure is full of fun activities for campers of all ages.
Low Ropes
Camp Kintail offers a wide variety of low ropes activities that are facilitated by trained staff. These activities promote team building, communication and listening skills. Not only do our campers love to try them out, but they can also be made available for youth groups and rental groups to use during their weekend retreats at Camp Kintail.
Spider Web
- working together campers try their best to get all members of their team through the ‘laser field’ without having any contact with any of the ‘lasers’ (Easy)
Wild Woozy
- working in pairs, campers use each other for support as they try to walk across individual wires that start out side-by-side, but slowly begin to move further away from one another, increasing the difficulty of the task as the campers make it further down the wires (Medium)
Pirates Crossing
- attempt to balance your way across a wire with only a criss-cross of ropes to help support you … rely on your fellow campers and staff members to spot you and help ensure your safety (Medium)
Tire Traverse
- swing from tire to tire ala Tarzan with our Tire Traverse element … the further you across you go, the more difficult the challenge becomes (Medium)
Tepee Shuffle
- stand in a line and reverse the order. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, give it a go on the tepee shuffle, a log raised 6 inches off the ground, and you may think differently. (Medium)
Around the World
- working as a cabin, campers must balance together for as long as they can on a single central pivot (Difficult)
Other Low Ropes Elements
